Description
Historically, cinnamon has been used for loss of appetite, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal complaints such as indigestion and dyspepsia. The spice has recently gained much attention for its potential treatment for blood sugar swings and type 2 diabetes. Cinnamon contains large amounts of highly potent polyphenol antioxidants and maybe anti inflammatory. Cinnamon may improve some key risk factors for heart disease, including cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. Cinnamon has been shown to significantly increase sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which may improve blood sugar control and insulin resistance. Certain compounds found in cinnamon appear to inhibit the buildup of a protein called tau in the brain, which is one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. Cinnamaldehyde has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which may reduce infections, as well as tooth decay and bad breath.
